Block of the Month #6 - School of Fish meets Baby Playsuit

July will soon be over and the new block for the
Sun, Sand, and Sea Block of the Month will be revealed.

In the meantime, I've been playing with this month's block a little more.

Quilt blocks can be used for more than just quilts.

I used one of  the paper pieced "School of Fish" blocks to make this baby playsuit.

The block was the perfect size  and all I had to do was add fabric around the block before I cut out the pattern piece.

The Sun, Sand, and Sea Block of the Month is
Hosted by Amy over at

This is the original block #6 ( the border of fish) and the original post is here.

The pattern for the playsuit is from the book, "cute clothes for kids" by Rob Merrett.

This book is full of fun patterns for little ones.
I want to make every one.

The pattern called for a pocket on top.
I modified it to use the quilt block for a little fishing buddy.
I just love making little clothes.
This one is 6 month size.

If you follow my blog, you are probably wondering about all the little things that have been showing up on my blog lately.  Well, I am just preparing for a future announcement....

Eat, Sleep, Play - A Baseball Pillow Cover

Today, Thermoweb is featuring my newest project
for all the baseball loving families of summer.

My family is crazy about baseball and summer means countless days at the ballpark.
With 3 boys, my sister barely has time to eat or sleep, but she never misses a game.
I know a few boys who would love this pillow.

I love to applique, but Deco Foil is a quick way to add shiny letters to a quilting project.
Have you played with it?
It's so simple to trace the letters onto Hot Melt Adhesive, cut them out, iron the adhesive onto a project, and then cover the adhesive with foil.
Want to see more?
Check out my post on theThermoWeb Blog today for a tutorial and link to the pattern.

Don't just sit on the bench, come play with me.  ;)

This one's for you, Nathan
With lots of love.

Sun, Sand, and Sea - Block #6 - School of Fish - It's the border for block #5

Welcome!!

July is here and it's time to reveal my design for the
Sun, Sand, and Sea
Block of the Month.

School of Fish
A border for block #5
(the block we made in June)

A quilt celebrating "Sun, Sand, and Sea" has to have a fish or two or more, right?

Once this border is stitched to the center block (#5)
it will measure 24 1/2" x 24 1/2" unfinished.

There are so many choices for this border:
Color (endless possibilities)
Eyes (optional)
Foundation Paper Piece (for precise piecing and a great pattern for a beginner)
Fusible Applique (if you want)

The pattern includes the foundation paper piecing pattern
and
applique patterns.

Your choice on how to sew.

Before I share the pattern, I have to thank some fantastic sponsors.

Thanks to Clothworks, I'm stitching with  American Made Brand solid fabrics.
The colors so vibrant and they are so nice to stitch with!

For foundation paper piecing I love using EZ print Quilt Block Sheets by Thermoweb.
All you do is print the patterns on your ink jet printer and stitch.
They are transparent for easy fabric placement and the sheets are super easy to tear for removal.

To applique,
I ONLY use my favorite fabric iron on adhesive by Thermoweb,
